The Homeowner's Goal
The homeowner needed the flickering lights and inconsistent power diagnosed and corrected as quickly as possible. Once the failed main-breaker connection was identified, the goal became replacing the damaged service equipment while keeping the home's existing 100-amp capacity and the same general number of breaker spaces.
Existing Conditions
Troubleshooting identified heat damage where the main breaker connected to the panel's energized bus bars. The damaged breaker jaws and bus connection could no longer maintain a dependable electrical connection, which caused intermittent power and flickering lights throughout the home. Because the bus connection was damaged, replacing only the main breaker would not have corrected the complete failure.
